About the Company
Wölfel Wind Systems is a German specialist in structural health monitoring and condition monitoring solutions for the wind industry. The company develops and produces systems used to monitor vibration and support the detection of rotor blade damage and icing. As part of this work, Wölfel relies on robust and repeatable assembly processes for critical electronic sub-assemblies used in demanding industrial environments.
The Challenge
Wölfel faced the challenge of scaling a critical sub-assembly process for vibration monitoring electronics used in rotor blade damage and icing detection. The assembly required repeatable quality, ergonomic operation, and a reliable way to handle a complex fastening sequence involving 3 screw types and 2 types of standoffs. With a fixed process flow and limited room for error, full process monitoring and per-unit traceability were essential to support quality documentation. At the same time, production output needed to increase quickly, creating an urgent need for a more scalable assembly setup.
The Solution
Spin Robotics delivered a collaborative assembly cell that standardizes the process while keeping the operator in control. The solution combines robotic screwdriving, automatic tool changing, and precise part handling in one guided workflow, helping Wölfel manage a complex assembly sequence with greater consistency and fewer errors. At the same time, built-in process monitoring and traceability provide the data needed for quality documentation and improved process control. The cell supports a fixed sequence involving 3 screw types and 2 types of standoffs, from standoff mounting and PCB placement to rail and lid assembly, creating a more stable and repeatable production flow.
