A fully automated screwdriving solution receives investment from the founder of Universal Robots A/S

REInvest Robotics invests in Spin Robotics ApS
futuristic building

Spin Robotics is ready to enter the North American and Asian market with the backing of REInvest Robotics, co-founded by Esben Hallundbæk Østergaard and Richa Hallundbæk Misri. Esben Hallundbæk Østergaard is co-founder of the leading Danish robot manufacturer Universal Robots. The timing of getting REInvest Robotics behind them as an active investor ensures Spin Robotics both their day-to-day operations and the vision of expanding globally. REInvest Robotics invests in robotics and automation companies that create greater value for people and for the world.

"Throughout my many years of travel to manufacturing companies in most of the world, I have often seen the need to automate one-sided repetitive assembly work, including screwdriving tasks. Spin Robotics has the right solution for this, by ensuring fewer problems with quality and less wear and tear on the assembly worker in a way that is both safe and flexible. In addition, there is a great team behind Spin Robotics. They have plenty of drive and are already market leaders in their specialty. We look forward to helping to spread Spin Robotics products for the benefit of companies all over the world", says Esben Hallundbæk Østergaard, CEO, REInvest Robotics.

Spin Robotics has proven that their product works and creates increased value in manufacturing companies. CEO, Teit Silberling says: "Our success rate is high with distributors and end-customers who can see the continuous high output SD35 and SD70 screwdriver gives". The positive response from users has allowed Spin Robotics to investigate the next goal of expanding globally. "Our company is now a place where we need additional sparring from investors who have tried to upscale a robotics company, and have experience and network from the industry, and know what it takes to introduce automated solutions in different markets; including North America and Asia," said CEO Teit Silberling.

Plus 33 distributors on board in less than 5 months

In 5 months, Spin Robotics has sold their screwdriving solution to over 33 new distributors throughout Europe, and with the growth journey Spin Robotics is on now, REInvest Robotics will be able to contribute with their large network and experience – both technically and commercially – so that Spin Robotics can robustly and safely embark on their global journey: into the North American and Asian market in early 23. "We feel a lot of pressure in the market. A market that is ready for our solution and for automation of screwdriving processes", says CSO Kristoffer Hansen, who has helped lift the company to where it is now.

Data measurement of more than 14 million screws annually

Companies with a focus on quality assurance in the screwdriving process are beginning to open their eyes to Spin Robotics. Thus, Danfoss annually collects data from more than 14 million driven screws, which is why they were quick to enter a development collaboration with Spin Robotics. Other companies that have also opened their eyes to the solution are Grundfos in Denmark and their production in China. "We are pleased and proud to see that a company like Grundfos will make use of our solution. Their quality control is top of the line, and Grundfos sees the fact that we collect data as a huge opportunity in our collaboration," says CSO Kristoffer Hansen.

Spin Robotic's screwdriving system inserts up to 6 screws in less than 1 minute, and the design of the tool allows for insertion of screws in hard-to-reach places. The solution ensures consistent high quality and reduces assembly time by up to 60%.

Data collection and torque measurement make it possible to measure every margin in the screwdriving process and thus increase the quality control and documentation of the collected data. The Spin Robotics interface provides the operator with a visual image of the data from the process. Spin Robotics’ overall solution and the use of a Universal Robot ensure a consistently high quality in the screwdriving process so that the number of errors in production are decreased. Production defects can be costly for subcontractors as they can lead to recalled batches.

SD35 became the screwdriving solution for Vestas

Spin Robotics' mission is to create a better working environment in production by automating the screwdriving process. Our screwdriving solution replaces manual, which in the long run can cause occupational injuries. For every new screwdriving solution that is automated, the industry achieves better value for money, reduces fault production and thus scrap, increases the quality and documentation of the process through a valid data collection.

Spin Robotics has recently been in dialogue with Vestes about the issue with their current screwdriving process. 20 screws must be mounted for every product, where each screw must be tightened to a torque of 0,5Nm. There is no EOAT (End-of-Arm-Tool) cobot that can do this, other than the Spin Robotics screwdriving tool. The two most important factors for Vestas were quality control and data collection, which became the reason why they bought Spin Robotics SD35 solution for their production.

"What we experience is that quality control is important for our customers and end users. They want to be competitive in a market that are crying out for automation. The demands of manufacturing companies have increased, both in production itself and in relation to employee relations. Therefore, companies are looking even deeper into automation solutions. Solutions that do not replace employees, but collaborate with the employee to increase output and add value and job satisfaction", says CSO Kristoffer Hansen

UR+ certification on Universal Robot's ecosystem is secured

In addition to the recognition from Esben Hallundsbæk Østergaard, Spin Robotics screwdriving solution has been certified and recognized by Universal Robots. This means that Spin Robotics collaborative screwdriving solution meets the criteria that Universal Robots sets for the safety and usability of "End-Of-Arm-Tools" for their collaborative robot arms.

"When a former founder of the billion-dollar company Universal Robots and the father of the UR+ platform want to join us on our growth journey, it shows us and the outside world that our product is worth vouching for and worth investing in. The plans to enter the North American and Asian markets are no longer a dream, its reality," says CEO Teit Silberling.

CTO Thomas Sølund, says: "We distinguish ourselves from the competition by offering our customers a safe cobot system that makes it possible to work together without the use of shielding or other safety measures. We can do this based on our patented safety system, which ensures that the robot stops if it comes into contact with the employee. The high security of our tools means that we get positive feedback from all our customers; especially in Germany and countries with a strong focus on employee safety".
