E-waste Robot Cell for electronic Disassembly

A compact robot cell that automates the repetitive screw-removal steps in screen disassembly. Two UR3e cobots equipped with Spin Robotics SD35 tools remove cover and internal screws across pre-programmed screen types. The operator simply loads the screen, selects the program on the HMI, and starts the cycle - delivering the same throughput with one operator, better ergonomics, and consistent results. Through the integration of image processing, the cell can dynamically identify display types and screw positions, eliminating the need for manual recipe selection and enabling true plug-and-play functionality. This next step towards full autonomy further reduces operating effort, supports a wider range of display variants and opens up adaptive disassembly workflows based on AI and machine learning.
  • Pre-programmed recipes: Common screen types are taught once and recalled on the on-cell HMI for fast, repeatable runs.
  • Cuts manual screw-removal workload to one operator with the same throughput as a 4–5 person team
  • Replicate the cell to add capacity without redesigning the process.
  • Smooth UR deployment: Native URCap support and hand-guided setup with teach pointer, accelerate commissioning on UR3e.

Key Benefits

01

Automates repetitive work

Automates repetitive screw-removal tasks, freeing people from low-value, high-strain work. The operator’s role focuses on quick confirmations and simple handling between steps, improving ergonomics while keeping decision points clear and efficient.
02

Scalable across your device mix

Teach once and reuse, common screen types are programmed and stored as recipes. New models can be added over time. Operators simply select the correct recipe on the HMI and run.
03

Parallel efficiency

Two collaborative robots work in parallel across defined steps, shortening each screw-removal phase and smoothing flow. The dual-cobot setup reduces dwell time and keeps throughput steady without increasing footprint or operator workload.
04

Stable, repeatable screw removal

The cell executes identical trajectories and torque settings every cycle, ensuring the same clean release of fasteners across devices. Repeatability reduces rework, protects components, and keeps downstream sorting smooth and reliable.
